Safety Norms

Safety measures observed at Thakur Public School (CISCE), Kandivali (E)

At the School Gate

  • All parents are issued one escort cards at the beginning of the academic year. Entry is permitted only upon presenting a valid escort card.
  • All teaching and non-teaching staff members are provided with ID cards that must be worn at all times within the school premises.
  • Visitors who are neither staff members nor parents are granted entry only after completing the Visitor’s Register at the entrance. This includes details such as name, contact number, purpose of visit, person to be met, entry and exit time, and signature. A valid photo identity is verified before granting access.
  • The school entrance is continuously monitored by CCTV cameras to ensure safety and security. All employees and visitors are screened using a metal detector before entering the premises.
  • Regular breath-analyser checks are conducted for staff members such as drivers, conductors, and support staff to ensure safety standards are maintained. Additionally, the campus area surrounding the school building is under constant CCTV surveillance.

Inside the school Building

  • All key areas of the school—including classrooms, library, science laboratories, audio-visual rooms, activity rooms, and indoor play areas (atriums)—are under continuous CCTV surveillance.
  • Washroom entrances on every floor are also monitored through CCTV. A lady attendant and a male attendant are stationed outside the washrooms to supervise and ensure student safety.
  • All corridors across floors are comprehensively covered by CCTV cameras. In addition, both teaching and non-teaching staff are assigned supervisory duties, ensuring that at all times a responsible authority is monitoring different areas of the school.
  • Each floor is supported by dedicated attendants (a peon and a didi) to assist teachers and students. A class pass system is implemented, allowing teachers to monitor students who step out of the classroom for any reason.
  • Students are always escorted by teachers for PE, Music, Activity, Dance, and Library sessions, ensuring they are never unaccompanied. For added safety, lady attendants are stationed inside lifts during school hours.
  • Parents and visitors have restricted access to the school building. All administrative interactions are conducted at designated counters outside the premises. Separate washroom facilities are provided for drivers, conductors, and support staff, located away from the main school building.
  • Students and staff are regularly trained in emergency evacuation procedures, with evacuation plans displayed on every floor. The school is equipped with fully functional fire extinguishers and smoke detectors installed at regular intervals, with periodic maintenance carried out as per Fire Department norms.
  • Science laboratories remain locked when not in use to prevent access to hazardous materials. Cleaning agents and disinfectants are securely stored, ensuring they remain out of reach of students

Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff

  • All teaching and non-teaching staff of TPS are required to submit copies of their Aadhaar Card and PAN Card along with their biodata at the time of appointment. The school also maintains fingerprint records of all employees as part of its security protocol.
  • The school proposes to obtain a formal declaration from every employee confirming that they have no criminal record, particularly under the POCSO Act, 2012 and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000.
  • Regular orientation and training sessions are conducted for all staff members on the provisions and importance of the POCSO Act, 2012 and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000. These sessions are led by the Principal, Management, and external experts. Attendance and participation in these sessions are formally recorded and acknowledged by all concerned.
  • All employees are required to strictly adhere to the School Code of Conduct, which outlines expected standards of discipline and professional behaviour. This code is duly signed and accepted by every staff member.

For Students

  • Teachers are assigned Arrival, Break, and Dispersal duties to effectively monitor students beyond the classroom environment.
  • Pre-primary students are under constant supervision by their teachers and lady support staff. They are always accompanied to the washrooms by designated attendants to ensure their safety.
  • Students are handed over only to parents upon verification of the ESCORT CARD. No child is released to relatives or friends. In case of an emergency, where a parent is unable to pick up the child, the school requires an authorization email from the parent’s registered email ID.
  • Students are sensitized through Value Education and Science classes about personal safety, including awareness of appropriate and inappropriate touch. These sessions are also supported by the school counsellor, who addresses such topics with professional care.
  • The school organizes age-appropriate self-defence workshops to empower students with essential safety skills.
  • If a student needs to leave school before regular dispersal time, exit is permitted only upon submission of a gate pass duly signed by the authorized school authorities.

School Transport

  • A lady attendant is present on every bus during all trips, ensuring continuous supervision of students. A male attendant is stationed at the bus entrance to manage the safe boarding and deboarding of children.
  • Each school bus is equipped with a fully stocked first aid kit and a functional fire extinguisher to handle emergencies effectively.
  • Student ID cards are colour-coded to distinguish between those who avail the bus facility and those who do not, enabling better monitoring and identification.
  • Thorough cross-checking of students is conducted before buses depart from the school premises. In case a child is absent due to illness or an emergency, it is recorded in the bus register. If a parent wishes to pick up a bus-registered student from school, they must sign the bus register before taking the child.
  • Teachers are assigned supervisory duties in the bus area to ensure that students board the correct buses and are safely seated before departure.
  • Students are never dropped off unescorted or handed over to an unauthorized person at their designated stops. In such cases, the child is brought back to school and released only to the parent.

Van & Unescorted

  • Students who travel unescorted are permitted to do so only after their parents submit a duly filled and signed consent letter to the school.
  • The school does not recommend the use of private vans. However, students opting for private transport or commuting unescorted (on foot or by bicycle) may do so only after submitting a written consent from their parents.
Emergency Response

The school has a dedicated emergency vehicle stationed within the premises at all times to respond swiftly to any urgent situation.

External Coordination

The school management maintains close coordination with nearby hospitals and the local police station, ensuring prompt and effective handling of emergencies.
